Hi there, I've been making the rounds trying out several CMS/CMF to use for some upcoming projects and happened across a8e. I've used Joomla in the past (but it has been about two years) and was considering it again since it has such a robust community and has a good selection of extensions/plug-ins. My question is this: are all Joomla extensions and plug-ins compatible with a8e, or is it just some that are, or none at all?

I browsed around the site a bit and also couldn't find any screenshots (or a list of sites running a8e, which would be nice to see--but from the sound of things, so to speak, it seems you guys are quite busy getting the new site up, so I totally understand). Are there links for those two things somewhere on the site and I'm just missing them? If the interface is just like the standard Joomla, then no need for screenshots and such, but I just couldn't find anything explaining the similarities/dissimilarities. I'm really excited at the prospect of a Joomla fork that is adheres to web standards, but I am concerned with extensibility and the ability to make use of Joomla plug-ins and so forth as my PHP/MySQL skills are not what they used to be--and I'm looking to build an online community.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The current iteration of a8ejoomla is, for all intents and purposes, 100% compatible with similar version releases of joomla. Third party Modules and components should function as intended under a8ejoomla.

We've got the beginnings of our new "gallery" on the front-burner which will eventually profile members sites built around a8ejoomla and our upcoming release of a8e (whole different ball of wax.) until we launch that area, best example of a8ejoomla uses is here (a8e.org) and joomlify.com (another site developed around a8ejoomla.)

From a visual standpoint, a8ejoomla looks and operates almost identically to joomla (most all changes are under the hood, not visible to us mere humans.) So, if you're familiar with older joomla, you should blend right in to a8ejoomla.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the information! I apologize it took me so long to get back to check for a response, work and personal life have had me incredibly busy.

That's encouraging news, that the interface will be familiar territory. That's rare as unicorns, to get the opportunity to try out a CMS fork and actually be familiar with the interface. I look forward to trying it out this weekend as I finally have time to install and take a peek.
