Long Live Legacy Joomla

A couple of days ago the joomla! core group announced their final "burial" dates for joomla! 1.0.15 (http://community.joomla.org/blogs/community/509-an-old-friend-comes-of-age.html) (legacy) and noted as well the discontinuance of listings for non-native 1.5+ third party components, modules and plugins (http://community.joomla.org/blogs/community/629-jed-will-phase-out-joomla-10-extensions-in-june-2009.html).

While we at a8e.org certainly understand the importance of single-cycle project development and the inherit need to keep codebase (esp. during beta) on track, we feel strongly about the undeniable utility and extensible lifecycle of, what's become known as the "legacy" joomla, and, have every intention to continue to support and develop a8e (formally known as a8ejoomla) towards a stable content management platform, freely available under the GPL/GNU Open Source initiatives.

We encourage all joomla legacy component, module, theme and plugin developers who'd like to support a8e by joining our third party developer teams, adding their work to our upcoming aed (*a8e extensions directory) to contact us via email (support@a8e.org) for more information.

a8e gets bundled

Over the last year we've had numerous requests from users looking for "packaged" or "bundled" versions of a8ejoomla that install in one easy process instead of installing a8ejoomla, finding and downloading additional 3rd party components, modules templates and plugins and then installing and debugging each in turn.

Initially, we'll be bundling a8ejoomla in three flavors, each specifically developed and designed towards a targeted niche market.

a8e-blog: a8e bundled with mojoBlog (wordpress-like blog for joomla)
a8e-wiki: a8e bundled with mojoWiki (Wiki for joomla)
a8e-dev: a8e bundled with mojoSef and mojoDev admin tools (developers CM Framework)

As we get closer to release candidates we'll publish feature outlines of each and add FAQ's and Documentation to our tutorials and Wiki sections respectively.

Week in Review #17

Development updates have been a bit sparse lately here on a8e.org but that's not to say we've not been busy with our upcoming release of a8e *(developers version) which we should have available for download by early October 2008.

Additionally, we'll be releasing our new GPL administration theme for joomla and/or a8ejoomla the first week of September, Screencaps and features list will be published here over the next day or so.

Week in Review #1

There's been little time last week to actually bring the newer a8e features online so we'll take a moment and look back at the week in repose.

Our a8e codex (http://www.a8e.org/component/option,com_mojowiki/Itemid,70/) (wiki) is online with preliminary winks *(wiki links) and most of our required plugins installed and tested. Not exactly exciting stuff yet but, we're optimistic once we start populating the codex with eventual content, it'll be one of our most active spots, next to the forums.

new, old, same but different

Welcome to a8e.org * the new home for a8ejoomla CMS support, updates and community forums. New members more than welcome, visiting/returning a8ejoomla members.. Welcome back.

Excuse the errant bits and occasional broken/missing links for the next few days. We're running a tad behind schedule in our launching of a8e and are scrambling to get new features online and the older a8ejoomla archives nestled in the new site structure. A bunch of work considering on top of everything else *(mojoBlog updates, joomlify.com server issues and an over due 100 year old bathroom renovation) as there's only 29 days in Feb *(leap year).

a8e-pronounced like the number: 80 or phonetically "ate eee"
meaning: 80 refers to the default http (or webserver) [[port 80]] or, the "listening" channel from which web pages are served.

Relaunch, Relove, Relive

While not technically "live" yet, we are in the process of migrating content from the existing a8ejoomla.com website and reorganizing here on a8e.
If you're here (and you shouldn't be, `cause we're not open for another week) then, you're most likely as curious as some of us are about the a8e's new look, new features and, the new direction for our favorite developers framework.

Well, you're just gonna have to wait patiently like the rest of us for the new stuff.
We go live, March 1st 2008.
Until then, feel free to poke about the place (thats visible to the unwashed masses) and check back on the 1st.

a8eJoomla 1.0.14 Stable Full Package

As promised, here is the final release of a8eJoomla 1.0.14 before Kevin takes over the project
I have only packaged the full version but this version can be used to upgrade any previous version of a8eJoomla by just overwriting your older installed version and then remove the installation folder. If you want to convert your Joomla to a8eJoomla, again just overwrite your Joomla installation with this one. You can also use this for a clean install as well.
Please backup your files before you attempt to upgrade your a8eJoomla!
For those that want to migrate to Joomla 1.5 and use the override template settings, i'll try and write up a tutorial though this depends on time i have.
Thank you for all your support.
Download a8eJoomla 1.0.14 full package (http://www.a8e.org/files/a8ejoomla/full-packages/)

NOTE: The original version.php has been put back into a8eJoomla so you will notice that once you have successfully installed a8eJoomla 1.0.14 it will say Joomla 1.0.14 [Useen] in the footer. It was added back as some extensions requires to check this file for different versions because of the login changes from 1.0.13 and none of it will check for a8ejoomla, causing a screen to be blank.

Time to say farewell but not the end.

As things have gotten hectic in my life and 101 things to sort out. I've decided to step down from managing a8e project. It is sad to let this go but as i have started a business recently, it now really needs a lot of TLC.
I want to thank everyone for their support and hope that a8eJoomla has been useful to you as it was to us.

Community Builder and a8ejoomla 1.0.13

There is a problem with running CB with a8ejoomla
Users have reported that they cannot login after installing CB and using CB login
This is a conflict caused by CB not recognising the a8ejoomla file /includes/version.php
If you are running Community Builder with a8ejoomla 1.0.13, please see this forum post (http://www.a8ejoomla.com/forum/view-621.html#295) for a quick fix

You are not authorised to view this resource.

Does it annoy you that when you accidentally browse to a restricted page only for registered users, you are only presented with a message saying:
You are not authorised to view this resource.
You need to login.
Well, sadly this happens with a8ejoomla. However, we have put up a tutorial on how to add a login box (http://www.a8ejoomla.com/tutorials/adding-a-login-box-for-not-authorised-to-view-page.html) to these restricted pages making your site more usable.

Re-packaged a8ejoomla 1.0.13

It has been reported on the forum that some users are having some trouble with updating their site from version 1.0.12 to 1.0.13.
After testing the full package of a8ejoomla 1.0.13 again it seems to be working as expected. So I have re-packaged the a8ejoomla 1.0.13 patch file again to make sure patching your files should work as well. Please backup your old files before upgrading your site.
Download:
a8ejoomla 1.0.13 full package (http://www.a8ejoomla.com/home/a8ejoomla/a8ejoomla-1.0.13-stable-full-version-/details.html)
a8ejoomla 1.0.12 patch to 1.0.13 (http://www.a8ejoomla.com/home/a8e-patches/patch-a8ejoomla-1.0.12-to-a8ejoomla-1.0.13/details.html)
These packages have all been tested on PHP4 and mySQL 5
thanks,
